Wow! The 2 hour barrier has been an elusive barrier that nobody has ever reached in a marathon. The closest was Kipchoge himself in Berlin in 2018 when he ran an astonishing 02:01:39 (still the official world record), but no one has ever been able to do better. Until today! Eliud Kipchoge did the impossible on Saturday 12th October 2019. This year's Great North Run had an electric atmosphere and saw a record breaking 57,000 runners participating. The sun was shining down across the North East of England and the conditions for fast running were in play.
